With the help of the Virtual Museum of Canada, the School House Museum has been able to transfer one of our most famous exhibits to the web. The “SWISHA” Project centres around the 1940s construction by the Ontario Hydro Power Corporation of a major hydro power electric dam on the Ottawa River at Rapides Des Joachims, pronounced locally as D’Swisha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Containing informations across many mediums on the construction camps, lumber industry, and colony life in and around the dam, the “SWISHA” Project exhibit provides the viewer with an unparalleled look at what life was like in the booming years of this little village. The Rolph, Buchanan, Wylie and McKay Historical Society would like to acknowledge the sacrifice made by those who lost their lives during construction, whose presence made it possible to create such an important monument. A formal declaration of their contributions is included in the conclusion of this online presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
